Kate Lyon

Kate has over twenty years experience in statistical research and survey design; administration; design and development of training courses and resource material, as well as many years involvement with community organisations, training institutes and polytechnics.

Kate also writes and develops NZQA Unit Standards, Training resources, Assessments and Evidence Guides for ITOs.

She designed the web model that PAN uses - Ara Tukutuku - after working as a faciliator in a research project for MSD in 2004.

Since July 2000 Kate has been working on developing various forms of communication facilitation - especially concentrating on cultural values and needs and the diverse individual needs of people with disabilities and communication difficulties. As a scholar of mythology, she uses metaphor and analogy extensively in her work.

Kate has recently written a set of books "The Hero's Journey", which uses the mythic structure of Joesph Campbell's monomyth to explain about the ways we can use this structure to enhance our lives and create wellbeing. You can see more about these books on the publisher's website - ABA Books Ltd.

Kate has worked as a Support Worker with IHC, and with professional care organisations, and has extensive experience working with people with diverse needs. She has worked extensively with youth; with the homeless and with people with disability and mental health needs.

Kate is also a qualified drama teacher, and uses role play and drama extensively in her work.
