Protecting Essential Services for People with Disabilities in Miami-Dade

Daniela

Right now, critical support for people with developmental disabilities in our community is at risk. Miami-Dade County is considering removing $127,700 in funding that sustains vital services provided by the Advocacy Network on Disabilities.

This funding supports a countywide program that allows people with developmental disabilities to live at home or independently — not in institutions. Without it, 37 individuals will lose essential support, and 440 families will lose the guidance of our Family Support Coordinator, who connects them to resources, advocates for their needs, and ensures they are not left behind.

These are not just numbers. They are real people — our neighbors, friends, and family members — whose independence and dignity depend on these services.

We cannot allow these services to disappear. Watch the video below to hear firsthand the impact of this funding and join us in urging county leaders to restore it. Together, we can ensure that people with developmental disabilities continue to thrive in our community.

Your voice matters. Share this post, contact your commissioner, and help us protect the future of Miami-Dade’s most vulnerable residents.
